Protective clothing

You don't need to invest in a lot of expensive clothing to go Marshalling. Try to wear natural fibres like wool or cotton next to the skin and avoid man-made fibres. Stout, protective boots are essential - not trainers. Make sure you cover arms even in hot weather.
Overalls, jeans, shirts and jumpers - made from natural fibres again - and choose colours which don't clash with flags. Gloves need to be dry and easy to remove. If they are wet there is a danger of scalding if you touch something hot, so carry a spare pair. The Club sells protective and wet weather gloves at reasonable prices

If you get the marshalling bug, then you will probably want to invest in a set of orange Proban Overalls.
Proban is flame retardant and provides additional protection from fires as well as protecting your ordinary clothes from damage.
Nomex underwear gives additional warmth and protection and is also available from the club at discount prices, together with waterproofs - a must for Marshalling in Britain - which are made from materials which don't present a risk when dealing with a fire.
The club also sells release knives designed for cutting seat belts, Gesco scissors, which will cut everything from helmet straps to metal braided hoses, seat belts and even metal braided brake lines, clipboards, hearing protection, lap counters, body warmers, baseball caps, jumpers, polo shirts, safety glasses and a range of badges and stickers, all at cut prices for members.
